Edgewood College’s Fameree, Owen lead Eagles' All-NAC selections

2011 All-Northern Athletics Conference Awards

MADISON, Wis. – Five members from the Edgewood College men's soccer team that finished fifth in the Northern Athletics Conference, earned postseason honors from the league. Senior A.J. Fameree and freshman Jake Owen led this group, both earning second team All-NAC recognition.

The De Pere native, Fameree started all 18 games in the Eagle defense, leading them to post six shutouts. The defense also only allowed just more than one goal per game. He handed out his only career assist against Dominican University on September 17. This marks his second consecutive NAC award, as he earned honorable mention all-conference last year.

In his first season as an Eagle, Owen was a key contributor to the Eagle defense. From that position, the Madison native tallied one goal and dished out two assists for a four points. Owen helped the defense improve on their 2010 goals against average of 1.69 to 1.29 in 2010.

Alexander Ribeiro led the Eagles with four assists and earned honorable mention All-NAC as well as being named to the all-freshman team. Along with those four helpers, the freshman from Green Bay tallied two goals, which ranked third on the team. His eight points also landed him third among Eagles.

Monroe native, Kelmend Isaj earned all-freshman team honors after leading the Eagles in scoring. His seven goals ranked him 11th in the NAC. He also handed out one assist for a total of 15 points. He started his career with a bang by scoring two goals in the Eagles' 3-0 win over Lawrence University in the season opener.

A senior from Mount Horeb, Chris Handrick was named to the all-sportsmanship team. He helped Fameree and Owen lead the Eagle defense that posted six shutouts. Handrick played in all but three games the last two years, and made 27 starts.

Edgewood College qualified for the NAC Tournament as the fifth seed, but fell 3-0 in the first round at Aurora University. The Eagles finished the season with an 8-7-1 overall record, including a 6-4-1 mark in NAC play.
