(Montclair, N.J.) – The 16th-ranked Dickinson College men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss to host Montclair State in double-overtime in the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs. The Red Hawks struck first with the Devils answering just minutes later in the first half.

The teams played scoreless until 3:26 into the second overtime when Dan Mendoza netted his second goal of the game to lead Montclair into the third round of the tournament.

Things started the opposite of the Devils' opening round game on Saturday with Dickinson falling behind on a goal by Mendoza, off a cross from Mike Rudden in the 40th minute.

The Red Devils quickly rallied to net the equalizer with just 2:32 remaining in the half as Bryan Gilmartin (Branchburg, N.J./St. Joseph's) played a ball into the penalty area. Nate Latshaw (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) beat the goalkeeper to pull the Devils even just two minutes, forty seconds later.

The Red Devils had chances in the second half. Senior Taylor Ferry (Wyndmoor, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) hit the post in the 75th minute and Gilmartin fired a shot that was deflected over the cross bar with a little over a minute to play in the game.

Junior goaltender Cody Hickok (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) made six saves on the afternoon. The Devils held an 18-11 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge in corners.

Anthony Rogic made four saves for Montclair, who improves to 17-3-3 on the season.

The Red Devils finish 11-5-5 overall. They advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third time with their first Centennial Conference Championship in school history.
