One Of Those Days Against #8 Gustavus
ST. PETER, Minn.-- It was one of those games where nothing went right for Concordia as they conceded three goals in the first and then four more in the second frame and lost 7-0 at No.8-ranked Gustavus.
The first tell-tale sign that Saturday was not going to be the Cobbers' day came in the seventh minute when Cobber defender Michael Redinger accidentally chested the ball into the CC goal. The Gusties would add a second in the 14th minute off of a corner kick. A Gustie attacker mis-hit a shot that bounced directly in front of him and proceeded to bounce over the CC defender and found the head of an open teammate. Lucas Thompson headed the ball into the goal to give GAC a 2-0 lead just 13:41 into the first half. Gustavus finished off the scoring in the first 45 minutes with a breakaway goal at 37:47. The Gusties outshot CC 12-3 in the first half.
The second half was more of the same for the CC defense as they tried to contain the Gustavus offense which was "in the zone". GAC scored a pair of goals less than 10 minutes apart midway through the second period and then tacked on two more just 3:23 apart at the end of the game.
The shot totals in the second half mirrored the first period as the Gusties held a 12-3 advantage.
For the game Gustavus had a 24-6 edge in total shots and a 16-5 margin in shots on goal.
Concordia split the goalkeeping duties. Peter Runquist started the game and played the first 51:40 and then Andy Iverson finished off the second half. Runquist had five saves and Iverson came away with four stops.
