OSWEGO, NY - The Medaille College men's soccer team got their 2012 campaign off to a good start with a convincing (2-0) victory over Alfred University in the opening game of the Oswego State Tournament.  With the win head coach Dan Krzyzanowicz earned his 150th victory as the Mavs coach.

On a blistering hot day in Central New York a young Medaille side showed no early season jitters as they controlled play from the opening whistle.  The Mavs played more than 20 players in the win and head Coach Krzyzanowicz attributes that to the victory.  "Our quality of depth was outstanding today and was a key factor in the outcome of the game" stated Coach K.

The Mavs struck first, late in the opening half when Pablo Ordonez won a ball in the middle third of the field and played it beautifully to Frankie Valente who chipped the ball past the Saxon keeper to give Medaille a (1-0) lead.

Midway through the second half Brian Cleary played a ball from out wide onto a streaking George Tor who made a pair of remarkable moves before depositing the ball into the back of the net for the Mavs second goal of the game.

Strong play came from all areas of the field as Austin Tom continued to play well coming off a tremendous rookie season while junior netminder Nate Konitzer earned the shutout between the posts.  The Medaille defense held Alfred to just one shot on goal for the game.

Coach K. has established himself as one of the nations top coaches as he turned a moribund Mavs program into a national power and has kept them there for an eight year span.....and counting.  During his time at Medaille he has led the Mavs to five NCAA Tournaments, including a Sweet 16 run in 2010, and seven AMCC titles (regular season and/or tournament).

The Mavs (1-0-0) will face host Oswego State at 3:00pm tomorrow in the tournament title game.  The Lakers beat SUNY Old Westbury (4-0) in their tournament opener.
