Majors Fall Short to Westminster
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Millsaps Majors Men's Soccer Team was back in action as they took on the Westminster Titans on Sunday afternoon in Memphis. The Majors played well defensively, but could not find a goal on the day despite 11 shots as they fell 1-0.
Millsaps came out hot in the first three minutes, getting shots from sophomore Chase Ming and junior Trey Fontaine that were off target. The two teams continued to battle throughout the first half as senior Stephen Andrieu played very well in goal, keeping a clean sheet going into halftime.
However, in the 60th minute, the Titans struck thanks to a goal from Michael McDonough on a penalty kick. The Majors responded with an onslaught of opportunity, taking seven shots in the second half alone, but they could not find the equalizer.
For Millsaps, Ming took three shots on the afternoon while sophomore Chucky Hayden and freshman Matt Crooker added two shots a piece.
Defensively, the Majors played well throughout the afternoon. Senior Alex Szabo was one of the top defenders throughout the match and Andrieu added four saves.
The Majors prepare for their home opener on Friday as they welcome in Division II Delta State into Harper Davis Field. First kick is set for 6 p.m.
