Hardin-Simmons Moves To 2-0
Junior Matt Pitcock scored his first goal of the season in the 19th minute. He put pressure on a UTPB defender and caused a turnover and then took the ball down the left side and beat Chris Branum to the lower left corner of the net.
Freshman Colyn Moore, who earlier in the day was named the American Southwest Conference offensive player of the week, drilled home a shot for his third goal of the year.
UTPB outshot the Cowboys 16-15 in the game and 5-4 on goal, but the Cowboys made their best chances count.
Sam Potter (2-0) had five saves for the Cowboys. Chris Benevides and Branum each played a half in goal for UTPB and both had one save and one goal allowed.
Both wins for the Cowboys have come against Division II programs. UTPB fell to 0-1 on the year. HSU plays Southwestern on Friday and Trinity on Saturday to close out non-conference action.
