Medaille Men Earn Third Straight Shutout in Blanking of Cortland State
BUFFALO, NY - The Medaille College men's soccer team opened the home portion of its schedule in similar fashion as their road slate began, with a convincing shutout victory. This time Cortland State was the victim and (3-0) was the final score.
In what was a physical affair, the Mavs proved to be the more skilled side as they netted three pretty goals. The first of which came in the 15th minute of the game when John Taggart played a great ball in transition onto the foot of George Tor who booted a beautiful left footed shot just inside the right post for the opening tally.
Shortly after that tally Cortland put pressure on the Mav goal with a great chance that was thwarted by a leaping Nick Kurtz who got his fingertips on a tricky ball that helped Medaille maintain its one goal edge. It would be the only shot that Cortland would put on frame all game.
The Mavs would carry the one goal lead into the half but would make an early statement in the second half when Shondel Wright finished on another Taggart offering to seize a (2-0) edge at the (46:11) mark.
Twenty minutes later the Mavs would net another terrific goal when George Tor played a short ball off a corner kick to Pablo Ordonez who found a streaking Jacob Conde for a perfect diving header that blistered the back of the net.
The Mavs would fend off a few furious late chances by Cortland to score, but to no avail as Medaille stretched its shutout streak to (270:00) to begin the 2012 season.
The Mavs (3-0-0) will head to Oneonta State to take part in the Mayor's Cup Tournament where they will face Skidmore College on Friday (9/7) at 1:00pm and then Oneonta State, a 2011 Final Four participant, on Saturday (9/8) at 4:00pm.
