POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team could not overcome a 3-0 deficit late in the game, as the Hawks fell at Vassar College, 3-1, in their season opener Friday afternoon in non-conference action.

Sophomore goalkeeper Andres Montoya (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue) was able to make 10 saves, but it would not be enough as the host Brewers outshot the Hawks 27-18, and put 13 shots on goal compared to six for New Paltz.

Justin Mitchell gave Vassar its first goal of the game in the 34th minute, and Jordan Palmer and Rob Manukyan added insurance in the second half for the Brewers.

Junior forward Mike Jacobsen (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) scored the only Hawks goal of the game off a helper from freshman forward Dondre Irving (Elmont, N.Y./Valley Stream North) in the 73rd minute.

The Hawks return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 4, for their home opener at Alumni Field, as they host Skidmore at 4 p.m.
