Saints Remain Unbeaten With 1-1 Double Overtime Tie at Wittenberg
(SPRINGFIELD, Ohio) - The Thomas More College mens' soccer team remained unbeaten with a 1-1 double overtime tie with Wittenberg University tonight (Wednesday, September 5, 2012) in a non-conference match at Edwards-Maurer Field in Springfield, Ohio.
With the tie, the Saints are now 1-0-2 overall and the Tigers are now 2-0-1 overall.
The Saints had a 1-0 advantage at halftime as senior midfielder Andrew Sullivan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) scored at the 13:04 mark off an assist from sophomore forward Kyle Troutman (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield).
Wittenberg tied the score at 1-1 in the second half when Marshall Rowland scored on a free kick at the 48:00 mark.
Neither team would find the back of the net over the final 42 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime.
Sophomore goalkeeper Matt Kees (Covington, Ky./Scott) played all 110 minutes in goal and allowed one goal, while recording one save.
Thomas More dominated the match as it out-shot Wittenberg, 19-4, including 11-2 on-goal. The Saints also won the battle of corner kicks, 5-4.
The Saints return to action on Saturday (September 8) when they host intra-state rival Transylvania University at 3:30 p.m. at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
