Buena Vista Men Record Highest Single-Game Goal Total since 2001 in Win over Presentation

More news about: Buena Vista men's team

Junior Tyler Lafferty turned in his first career hat trick and the Buena Vista men's soccer team posted its highest single-game goal total since 2001 when it topped visiting Presentation College, 7-0, on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Steve Gutschenritter knocked home his first goal of the year just more than four minutes into the contest, as the Beavers grabbed the early 1-0 lead.

Roland Pappoe pushed it to 2-0 eight minutes later when he found the back of the net off a pass from Juan Flores-Andrade.  Midway through the period, Flores-Andrade and Eric Karita then found Lafferty for the first of his three goals to make it 3-0.

Seth Moeller extended the Beaver advantage to 4-0 nearly 10 minutes later after a nice feed from Karita.

Lafferty then gave BVU a 6-0 lead with a pair of goals early in the second half before Karita knocked through his first goal of the year for the game's final goal.

Lafferty, who finished with a match high seven total shots, now has six goals on the year.  As a team, the Beavers have scored 15 times over its first three games.  The team scored just 16 total goals all of last season.  Karita moves up the points chart as he now has six assists on the year.

Defensively, freshman Michael Rydberg picked up the win in-goal, going all 90 minutes and tallying three saves.

Buena Vista is now 3-0 on the year and is off to its best start since 2002.  The team looks to make it four straight wins to start the season when it travels to Illinois College for a 2:00pm contest on Saturday afternoon.
