Buena Vista Men Start Season 2-0 for First Time since 2002

More news about: Buena Vista men's team

The Buena Vista men's soccer team moved to 2-0 for the first time since 2002 on Sunday afternoon when it held on to top Northland College, 3-2, inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium to close out the annual BVU Classic.

Similar to Friday's season opener, the Beavers wasted no time getting onto the board and grabbing the early lead.  Juan Flores-Andrade turned in his first goal of the year less than three minutes into the contest on a cross pass set up from Dylan Waugh and Eric Karita.

Tyler Lafferty then made it 2-0 when he found the back of the net for the third time this season.

Northland then cut the lead in half six minutes later on a goal off a deflection just in front of the goal.

Roland Pappoe gave the team its two-goal cushion back when he took a feed from Joey Stivers for his first goal of the year.

Northland pulled back within 3-2 just more than 10 minutes into the second half on a free kick from the right side of the goal from nearly 20 yards out, but the Beavers were able to hold on for its second straight win to start the year.

Michael Rydberg picked up the second straight win to start his career, as BVU has posted eight goals in those two games.

The team will look to start 3-0 when it hosts Presentation College on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00pm inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium.
