Buena Vista Men Remain Unbeaten with 1-1 (2OT) Tie against Illinois College
The Buena Vista men's soccer team remained unbeaten in four games to start the year by playing to a 1-1 (2OT) tie on the road at Illinois College on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Joey Stivers (Glenwood, Iowa/Glenwood), who took a team-high five shots in the match, gave the Beavers the early 1-0 advantage when he scored an unassisted goal less than 10 minutes into the contest.
That's the way the score remained until Illinois College, which out-shot BVU, 22-11, on the day, evened things up with 17 minutes to play in the second half.
Illinois College did take six shots in the overtime periods, compared to only one for the Beavers, but the defense rose up with four of freshman Michael Rydberg's (Overland Park, Kan./Olathe East) nine saves coming in extra play.
With its goal on Saturday, Buena Vista has already matched its season total from all of last year (16). The team looks to run its unbeaten streak to five when it travels to Martin Luther College for a non-conference contest on Tuesday evening for a 5:00pm match-up.
