Western New England Ties Manhattanville in Valiant Classic Opener

PURCHASE, N.Y.--In their first trip to the state of New York in three seasons, the Western New England University men's soccer team came from behind to forge a 1-1 double overtime tie Saturday against Manhattanville in the Valiant Classic opener. The Golden Bears now stand 1-2-1 on the season while the Valiants are 2-1-1.
Trailing 1-0 in the second half, Western New England got on the scoreboard in the 48th minute when Bobby Jameson converted a penalty kick on a shot into the top-right corner of the goal.
Moshee Kelyana gave the hosts a quick 1-0 lead just 3 minutes and 44 seconds after the opening kickoff, scoring his third goal of the season from the top of the 18-yard box.
Western New England was aggressive in its offensive approach evidenced by 11 offsides infractions. The Golden Bears also outshot the Valiants, 11-10.
Domenick Villano returned in goal for Western New England, posting two saves. His counterpart Steve Singson was kept busy by WNE forwards who forced him into making five stops.
