Early Goal Sinks Hornets in Shellenberger Classic, Tourney Team Announced
LYNCHBURG, VA – Greensboro College continued its solid defensive play holding Lynchburg College scoreless for a 2-0 victory on Sunday night in the final match of the Shellenberger Classic.
The Pride scored first at 9:42 when Morgan Stevenson received the ball from Marco Figueroa before burrowing it high in the goal above the outstretched hand of junior Michael Releford. The goal was the first of the weekend for Greensboro who were shut out, 1-0, by Roanoke. Sean Courtney added a goal late off an assist from Logan Paussa to seal LC's fate.
Sophomore Luke Moore provided the main spark for the Hornets. Moore took eight shots with three on goal that were stopped by keeper Manbi Nyepon for three of his five saves on the night.
Releford made four saves for LC. Sophomore Tom Titus and freshman Tajee Harley each had a shot on goal for the Hornets.
Franklin and Marshall's Ben Beaver was named MVP of the Shellenberger Classic. The All-Tournament Team consisted of:
