#11 Warhawks Fall to #4 Loras

More news about: UW-Whitewater men's team

The Duhawks rattled off eight shots including five on goal in the first half of play with Warhawk goalkeeper Matt Mikesell on the saving end of four. UW-W notched two shots on goal in the first 45 minutes of competition.

Loras started their offensive pressure on the Warhawk defense with a shot on goal at 3:47 by Erik Berkowitz that was thwarted by Mikesell. Alex Szarzynski had a chance at the goal at 10:39 that was saved by Loras goalie Dave Milkent.

Whitewater and Loras traded headers that flew wide of the goal less than two minutes apart at 19:08 and 20:40 before Austin Saari's shot on goal at 27:56 was just wide. The Duhawks answered with back-to-back shots just four seconds apart at 30:43 and 30:47, both were saved by Mikesell.

Loras' Sean Lewis made good on his chance at the net with a goal at 39:31 off an assist from Sam Koenig, his second goal of the season and the first goal allowed by UW-W this season. Mikesell saved the last attempt at a goal by a Duhawk at 42:20 before the first half expired.

The second half continued much like the first with a very physical match played between the two teams. Whitewater added two more shots on goal and Mikesell saved four more Loras scoring opportunities.

Bob Shone tried to put the Warhawks on the board at the beginning of the second half with a shot at 56:22 that was saved by the Loras goalkeeper. Sam Kuchenreuther had an opportunity at 84:01 but Milkent once again closed the door on UW-W as the Duhawks stole the win.

Whitewater posted four shots on goal in the contest to Loras' nine. The Duhawks had the advantage in corner kicks 8-3 including six opportunities in the second half.

Goalie Matt Mikesell is now 3-1 this season and Loras' goalkeeper Dave Milkent is 5-0-1 with five shutouts.

The Warhawks will host North Park University Sunday, September 16 with a 2:00 scheduled start.
