Medaille Men Suffer First loss of Season in Double OT
GREENVILLE, PA - Playing in their first game of the Tomcat Invitational (hosted by Thiel College), the Medaille men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season as they were upended (2-1) in double overtime by Birmingham Southern College.
The Mavs opened the scoring in the 41st minute of play when George Tor found the back of the net off a pass from John L. Smith to grab the (1-0) lead. It was a lead that would last until late in the second half when Birmingham Southern netted the equalizer exactly at (84:00). The teams would take that score into the end of regulation and head to overtime.
The Mavs were the only team to manage a shot in the first overtime but would not breakthrough. It would be Birmingham Southern who would end things at (105:10) when they beat Nick Kurtz for the game winner on an assisted tally. Kurtz would stop three shots on the day in a game that featured very few overall shots and chances.
The loss drops Medaille to (5-1-0) on the season and it was just the second game in 2012 where they surrendered a goal. They will look to get back into the win column when they face Thiel College tomorrow (9/16) at 2:00pm on day two of the Tomcat Invitational.
