The Wheaton (Ill.) men's soccer team tops Calvin College, 3-1

Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton College men's soccer team used a strong and consistent offensive attack on Friday night in earning a 3-1 victory against Calvin College on its home pitch at Joe Bean Stadium. The Thunder scored a pair of first-half goals to jump out to an early lead and held a 23-10 advantage in shots for the match.

Wheaton improves to 5-1 on the year. Calvin falls to 2-3 for the season. The Thunder will return to action Sept.  18 at Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois.

Wheaton was staked to a 1-0 lead when Mitchell Paur converted a Nathan Jasperse assist at the 13:07 mark of the match. Thunder sophomore Adam Blackman blasted a shot into the back of the net from 25 yards out on a Stephen Golz assist that increased Wheaton's advantage to 2-0 at the 34:27 mark of the match.

Blackman registered his second goal of the night at the 60:57 mark of the match when he registered an unassisted score with on a shot that arched in over Calvin netminder Jared Rushlau. Calvin's Taylor Pruis put the Knights on the scoreboard when he scored off of a Sean Broekhuizen assist at the 82:23 mark of the match.

Wheaton out-shot the Knights 14-7 in the first half and the hosts held a 9-3 edge in the second half. Calvin recorded four corner kicks in the match and Wheaton registered three. Thunder goalkeeper Ryan Seager made four saves and allowed the late Calvin goal. Rushlau made five saves and allowed all three goals in the Knights' net.
