No. 18 Washington U. Men’s Soccer Picks Up 3-0 Win at Rhodes

Memphis, Tenn., Sept. 15, 2012 – Three different players scored for the No. 18-ranked Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team as the Bears earned their third shutout in a row with a 3-0 win at Rhodes College on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears took the lead in the 33rd minute with a goal by sophomore Jon Geremia off an assist from sophomore Juan Alban. The goal was Geremia's first in his career at Washington U. The Bears maintained the 1-0 lead through the remainder of the half.

Freshman David Alemany gave the Bears a 2-0 lead in the 54th minute, scoring on a rebound after freshman Connor Roach's shot bounced off the crossbar. Junior Michael Flowers then made it 3-0 in favor of the Bears in the 73rd minute with his second goal of the season off an assist from freshman Ike Witte.

The Bears outshot Rhodes 18-7 in the match, including 10-3 in shots on goal. Juniors Jonathan Jebson (81 minutes, three saves) and Michael McCarthy (nine minutes) combined to earn the shutout in goal for Washington U.

Washington University (4-0-1) returns to action at Greenville College on Tuesday, Sept. 18. The Bears and Panthers are scheduled to square off at 7 p.m. in Greenville, Ill.
