Plummer's Goal in Final Minute Gives Saints' 4-3 Road Win at Earlham
(RICHMOND, Ind.) - Sophomore midfielder Jake Plummer (North Olmsted, Ohio/Corpus Christy Academy) scored in the 90th minute to give the Thomas More College men's soccer team a 4-3 win over Earlham College today (Tuesday, September 18, 2012) in a non-conference match at Matlack Field in Richmond, Indiana.
With the win, the Saints remain unbeaten as they improve to 4-0-3. With the loss, the Quakers fall to 2-5.
Earlham took an early 1-0 lead when Tamra Taye scored unassisted at the 25:16 mark. The Quakers extended the lead to 2-0 at halftime as Shvan Al-Hussein scored on a cross from Felipe Bauitrago at the 34:33 mark.
Thomas More cut the lead to 2-1 at the 58:37 mark when sophomore forward Kyle Troutman (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) scored unassisted. Plummer scored unassisted at the 79:30 mark to tie the match at 2-2. The Saints took their first lead of the match at the 82:37 mark when Troutman scored on an assisted from Plummer to make the score 3-2 in favor of Thomas More. The Quakers answered with a Mussa Ibrahim goal at the 88:02 mark to tie the match at 3-3. Plummer found the back of the net at the 89:06 mark for the game-winning goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Craig Martin (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) played all 90 minutes in goal and allowed three goals, while recording four saves for the win.
Thomas More out-shot Earlham, 14-12, and won the battle of corner kicks, 4-1.
The Saints return to action on Saturday (September 22) when they travel to Ada, Ohio to play Ohio Northern University in a 1 p.m. non-conference match.
