NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team (3-3-1, 0-1-0 SUNYAC) was held scoreless in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup with SUNY Cortland (3-4-0, 1-0-0 SUNYAC) on Friday afternoon at Alumni Field.

In the 69th minute, Cortland's Gabriel Morales fired one home from the top of the box that barely squeaked over sophomore goalkeeper Andres Montoya's (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue) outstretched arms and under the crossbar for the only score of the game. Anthony Marinello added an assist on the score.

Tim Beauvais made seven saves for Cortland without allowing a goal en route to his third victory of the season. Montoya made one save and allowed a goal for his third loss on the year.

The Hawks had their best chance to tie the game in the 83rd minute when freshman midfielder Anton Herodes (LaGrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) headed a ball from point blank near the right post, but Beauvais got there just in time to make the save.

The game was physical from the first minute as the tensions were rising. Fouls were aplenty and New Paltz received three yellow cards in the contest, while Cortland had one of its own.

New Paltz significantly outshot the Red Dragons, 21-9, and held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Sophomore forward Stephen Browne (Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place) and junior midfielder Javier Ventas (Madrid, Spain/Santa Maria del Pilar) each fired off five shots, three of which were on net for Ventas.

New Paltz returns to the field tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 22, as they take on SUNY Oswego in a SUNYAC matchup. The game is set to kickoff at 1 p.m.
