Men's Soccer Blanks Faith Baptist ahead of Saturday's IIAC Opener

The Buena Vista men's soccer team took a season-high 36 shots on Thursday afternoon and went on to top Faith Baptist Bible College, 3-0.

Junior Tyler Lafferty (Berwyn, Ill./St. Joseph) got BVU on the board near the midway point of the first half when he converted his penalty kick attempt for his team-leading seventh goal of the year.  BVU out-shot the Eagles in the opening half, 14-3 and 36-3 overall.

Joey Stivers (Glenwood, Iowa/Glenwood) made it 2-0 early in the second half before Matt Seniura (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) capped the scoring with five minutes left in regulation with his second goal of the year.

Seniura, along with Steve Gutschenritter (Pacific Junction, Iowa/Glenwood), finished with eight shots, as each also tallied five on-goal.  Stivers was close behind with six shots (four on-goal).

Freshman Michael Rydberg (Overland Park, Kan./Olathe East) went the distance in-goal and recorded his second career shutout.

Buena Vista pushes its overall record this season to 5-1-1 and will now begin Iowa Conference play this Saturday, September 22 with a road contest at fourth-ranked Loras College (7-1-1).  Game time inside of the Rock Bowl is scheduled for 1:00pm.
