Medaille Men Survive Scare from Hilbert; Stay Unbeaten in AMCC

More news about: Medaille men's team

HAMBURG, NY - The Medaille College men's soccer team won its third straight game but had to work till the bitter end to defeat a hardworking Hilbert squad, but in the end it would be the Mavs who earn a tough (2-1) conference road win this afternoon.

The Mavs got on the board early when rookie Cory Carter netted his third goal of the season off a ball played to him from Pablo Ordonez to grab a (1-0) lead.  The Hawks would have some good chances throughout the first half but were unable to capitalize in the opening 45 minutes as Medaille took the one goal lead into halftime.

The second half would see the Mavs tally first again when James Turner finished off an offering from sophomore Austin Tom in the 62nd minute to double their lead to (2-0).  The Hawks did not give in as they cut the lead in half with an assisted marker in the 76th minute to keep things interesting.

The Mavs were able to hold off the Hawks and earn the win but the stats reflect a closer game than many imagined as Medaille outshot Hilbert (21-14) overall and (7-3) on goal.  Earning the win between the posts was senior Nick Kurtz who made two saves on the day.

The win moves Medaille to (8-1-0) overall and (2-0-0) in AMCC play.  They are also (4-0-0) in road games with their one blemish coming in a neutral site game.  They will look for their fourth straight win when they host Houghton College on Thursday (9/27) at 6:30pm in a non-conference showdown at All High Stadium.
