BOXERS EARN THIRD SHUTOUT
Over the weekend, the Pacific men's soccer team earned their third shutout of the season. On Saturday, the Boxers played tough defense to claim a 1-0 victory over Whitman. On Sunday, the Boxers could not find the back of the net as they were shutout 2-0 by a tough undefeated Whitworth squad. The Boxers are currently tied for sixth with Linfield in the Northwest Conference. This weekend the Boxers will look to fight for victories over Willamette on Saturday and Linfield on Sunday.
BOXER BYTES
• Antonio Madeddu scored his first goal of the season and the only goal of the weekend to help the Boxers shutout Whitman 1-0.
• Michael Summers once again play tough between the pipes, ranking him first in the Northwest Conference in saves. Summers also ranks in the top-10 in one other category.
• Freshman Nick Calkins has recorded two assists on the season with one that came over the weekend against Whitman.
• Jim Brazeau collected his 100th win as head coach for Pacific over the weekend. The Boxers earned their third shutout of the season against Whitman on Saturday.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
WILLAMETTE
Willamette finished tied for fifth with Pacific in 2011 with a record of 5-8-1 in the Northwest Conference, 6-9-2 overall. Lloyd Fobi is in his second season as head coach. The Bearcats currently sit in seventh place with a 0-3-1 NWC record, 3-5-1 overall. On Saturday, the Bearcats were shutout by Puget Sound 2-0. On Sunday, Willamette fell to Pacific Lutheran 2-1. A Second Team All-Northwest Conference selection in 2011, Erik Kaufman returns for the Bearcats. In 2011, he led the Bearcats with seven goals and two assists. Kaufman recorded five game-winning goals. Willamette also returns second teamer Mike McGrew at Midfield. In 2011, he scored six goals and tallied four assists.

LINFIELD
Linfield finished seventh in the Northwest Conference in 2011 with a record of 1-12-1, 2-14-1 overall. Chuck Bechtol is in his first year as the Wildcats head coach. So far in 2012, the Wildcats are 3-4 overall, 1-3 NWC. On Saturday, the Wildcats were shutout by Pacific Lutheran. On Sunday, the Wildcats suffered another shutout against Puget Sound. Returning for Linfield is goalkeeper Scott Goodman. In 2011, Goodman saw action in seven matches and led the team with a .694 save percentage. Joining the team this season is transfer Jake Baker. He transfered from Western Oregon University and in the Wildcats seven matches this season Baker has scored two goals.

PACIFIC NEWS & NOTES
MADEDDU SCORES LONE GOAL: On Saturday, Antonio Madeddu (Sr., Milwaukie, Ore.) scored his first goal of the season and the lone goal for the Boxers on the weekend. The goal came early in the first half after a shot by Quintin Love (Fr., Kailua, Hawaii) and a Pacific foul. In the 12th minute, Nick Calkins (Fr., Hillboro, Ore.) threw the ball into Madeddu, who was inside the box. Madeddu fired between the posts, past Whitman's goalkeeper, to find the back of the net. Madeddu has only played in six games this season due to any early injury. In those six games, Madeddu has shot six times with three shots on goal.
SUMMERS KEEPS SAVING: Over the weekend, Michael Summers (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.) collected 14 saves to help the Boxers earn their third shutout of the season. In Saturday's match, Summers tallied seven saves. Summers ranks in the top-10 of two different Northwest Conference statistical categories. He ranks first in saves (45) and fifth in save percentage (.763). In the Boxer's three shutouts, Summers (3-6-0) has recorded two shutouts between the pipes. Summers has started all nine matches and owns a 1.69 goals against average. Zach Cohen (Jr., Grafton, Calif.) has seen action in two matches to help the Boxers collect their first shutout of the season against Walla Walla on Sept. 7. Cohen has collected four saves in his two games played.
FRESHMAN STEPS UP: In Saturday's match against Whitman, Nick Calkins recorded his second assist for the season. In the 12th minute, he threw the ball into Madeddu, who fired and found the back of the net. Calkins has played in five matches this season with two starts. His first assist came on Sept. 7 against Walla Walla, when he worked together with Alex Arrington (So., Portland, Ore.) to cross the ball to Love to help the Boxers secure a 6-0 victory.
100th WIN FOR BRAZEAU: Heading into Jim Brazeau's 13th season as head coach, his record stood at 97-107-22. On Saturday, Brazeau collected his 100th win at Pacific with a 1-0 shutout over Whitman. Madeddu scored the lone goal for the Boxers in the 12th minute to secure the victory. Brazeau's best years came in 2009 and 2010, where he collected 14 wins in both seasons. In 2010, the Boxers were Northwest Conference champions and earned a birth to the regional tournament with an overall record of 14-3-3. The Boxers are currently tied with Linfield for sixth place in the NWC.

PACIFIC PICKED TO PLACE SIXTH: After posting a 5-12-1 record in 2011 the Boxers were picked sixth in a preseason poll of NWC coaches. The Boxers received 20 of a potential 64 points in the poll. Pacific Lutheran received five first place votes with Whitworth receiving two and Whitman receiving one. The Boxers were seven points in front of rival Linfield and seven behind Willamette.
