Baruch edges Brooklyn 2-1

Oren Kozlowski scored two goals to lead the Baruch College Bearcats to a 2-1 home soccer victory over the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College on Saturday afternoon at the Met Oval in Maspeth, New York.

With the result, the Bearcats (3-4-4 overall) jump into CUNYAC first place with a 2-0-2 record for 8 points. Brooklyn (5-4-2 overall) drops to 1-1-2 in conference play with five points.

The two teams played a scoreless first half, but the Bearcats got on the scoreboard first at 57:55. Akil George sent a through ball to a charging Kozlowski and the talented rookie beat the goalkeeper for the first score.

Brooklyn tied the match at 74:00 as Dmitriy Prokofyev brought down a cross in the box from Dedou Toure, evaded a defender, and kick a shot past the goalkeeper for the 1-1 tie.

The Bearcats responded at 82:30 as Christopher Peralta sent a high pass into the box. The rookie Kozlowski out-jumped his defender to head in what turned out to be the eventual winning goal for the 2-1 score.

The Bearcats out-shot Brooklyn, 15-9. Peter DiBona notched the win again with four saves, while Brooklyn goalkeeper Stamatis Boundouris totaled five saves.

The clean and well played match featured no cards.

Baruch will return to action on Wednesday, October 3, with a 6:00 pm CUNYAC home contest against the Cardinals of York College.
