Garfing helps Fords rally past Rowan

More news about: Haverford men's team

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Dan Garfing's first goal of the season came at an opportune time as it helped the Haverford College men's soccer team rally past Rowan University, 3-1, in a non-conference match-up at Walton Field Tuesday afternoon.

Garfing tallied what proved to be the game-winner in the 84th minute of the contest as he connected off a scramble in front of Rowan goalie Ryan Gill to break a 1-1 deadlock and give the Fords (7-4) their first lead of the afternoon.

Scoring his team-leading sixth goal of the season, freshman Sam Yarosh converted a terrific cross from classmate Colin Seitz with just over a minute remaining on the clock to cap the scoring and extinguish any thoughts of late-game heroics by the Profs (5-5-1).

Haverford faced an early 1-0 deficit as Rowan's Christian Fountain scored his fifth of the season less than two minutes into the contest. Undeterred by playing from behind for the first time in five games, the Fords pressed on and registered six shots on Profs starting goalie Michael Fanz-Huster over the next 24 minutes of action.

Senior Matt Gorski broke through at 25:45 with his fifth goal of the year as he took a feed from Colin Seitz 18 yards out and nailed it off the left post past Fanz-Huster to knot the score at 1-1.

Making several tough stops throughout the afternoon, junior Andriy Mshanetskyy (7-3) was stellar in goal with a season-high nine saves.

Gill (3-3), who came on in relief for Fanz-Huster at the start of the second half, made three saves in the loss.

Haverford finished with nine shots on goal and 19 shots overall on the day.

Colin Seitz registered the first two assists of his collegiate career in the game.

Having won four consecutive contests, the Fords face a tough task at the end of the week as they travel to 20th-ranked Dickinson College for a crucial Centennial Conference match-up. The game begins at 2:30 p.m.
