Trinity Men's Soccer Blanks Westfield State
Hartford, Conn. – Junior forward Trevor Doolittle (Milford, Conn.) scored the game's only goal in the 37th minute and sophomore goalkeeper Jason Katz (Middleton, Mass.) made four saves to record his third shutout in a row, as the Trinity College Bantams downed the visiting Westfield State University Owls, 1-0, in men's soccer action this afternoon. Trinity improves to 5-1-3, extends its unbeaten streak to six games, and snaps a two-game losing skid against the Owls. Westfield State drops to 4-5-1.
Doolittle punched in his first career goal from 12 yards away after a hard blast by junior forward John El-Hachem (Vernon, Conn.) was partially deflected by a Westfield State defender. Trinity had nearly scored on two occasions early in the game when first-year Malcolm Joseph (Sudbury, Mass.) banked a header off the far post and classmate Christian Carrasquillo (Manchester, Conn.) was denied on a one-on-one against Owl junior goalie Kris Carrington (Agawam, Mass.).
Westfield State's closest chance of the first half came in the seventh minute when senior midfielder Bill Lund (Monson, Mass.) beat Katz to a pass on the right wing but could not get off a shot with Trinity junior captain back Zachary Packer (Mansfield, Mass.) the last man between Lund and the Bantam goal. The Owls got just two shots off in the second half, thanks to strong play from junior captain backs Packer and Shaun McGann (West Hartford, Conn.), junior Andrew McNair (Westport, Conn.), and rookie back Jack Vogel (Northborough, Mass.). Trinity came close to adding an insurance goal after the break on a header by Packer, but the ball sailed just wide. Katz has not allowed a goal in his last 344:45 of play.
