Gettysburg Tops Goucher 3-0
TOWSON, Md. – Freshman Noah Sheetz-Ziegel (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) turned in his first collegiate points with a goal and an assist, while the defense limited host Goucher College to just three shots as the Gettysburg College men's soccer team downed the Gophers 3-0 in a non-conference match up Wednesday night.
Gettysburg (4-5-1) turned in its best offensive and defensive displays of the season in beating Goucher (3-5-1). Not only did the Bullets fire off a season-high 21 shots, but the squad held the Gophers to only three looks at the cage, the lowest total by an opponent this fall.
The visitors fired off six quick shots, including four on goal, before Sheetz-Ziegel found the back of the net for his first collegiate score at 15:20. Junior Brooks Taylor (Nashville, Tenn./Taft School (Conn.)) earned the assist on the play, and just six minutes later Sheetz-Ziegel returned the favor, setting up Taylor for the contest's second score at 21:39.
Junior Connor Darrell (Cream Ridge, N.J./Allentown) posted his only save of the contest on a header by Hudson Bielecki at 52:20. Sophomore Christian Pyros (Shavertown, Pa./Dallas) put the finishing touches on the victory with his second goal of the season following a pass from classmate Gerard Sager (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) at 71:40.
Pyros led the Bullets with four shots, while Sheetz-Ziegel and Taylor each posted three attempts.
Gettysburg hosts Swarthmore College in a Centennial Conference match up on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 1 p.m.
