TOUGH WEEKEND FOR BOXERS
Over the weekend, the Pacific men's soccer team took advantage of scoring opportunities but came up short in two tough losses. On Saturday, the Boxers scored twice, but Willamette scored late to claim a 3-2 victory. On Sunday, the Boxers tied the match up at 1-1 against Linfield, but the Wildcats took control scoring three more goals to claim a 4-1 victory over the Boxers. This weekend, the Boxers are looking to return to the winning track as they travel to George Fox on Saturday. The Boxers are tied with the Bruins for seventh place in the NWC.
BOXER BYTES
• After going six games without finding the back of the net, Alex Arrington scored his second goal of the season on Saturday against Willamette.
• Michael Summers continues to play tough defense between the pipes as he still ranks in the top-10 in two differnt NWC statistical categories.
• Nick Rudella paced the offense for the Boxers over the weekend, scoring two out of the four goals scored. Rudella ranks in the top-five in goals scored.
• Jorge Mandujano collected two assists over the weekend and currently ranks in the top-five in assists.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
GEORGE FOX
George Fox finished eighth in the Northwest Conference in 2011 with a 0-13-1 record, 2-15-1 overall. Luis Del Rio is in his first season as head coach of the Bruins. George Fox is currently eighth in the NWC with a 1-5 record, 1-9-1 overall. On Saturday, the Bruins were shutout by Linfield 2-0. On Sunday, the Bruins collected their first conference victory, 1-0 over Willamette. Sophomore Myles Sorokousky returns for the Bruins. He currently leads George Fox with two goals. Senior Elliot Davis also returns between the pipes. He has collected 46 saves with a 1-7-1 record in 2012.

FINDING THE BACK OF THE NET: After going six games without finding the back of the net, Alex Arrington (So., Portland, Ore.) scored his second goal of the season against Willamette on Saturday. In the 56th minute, Jorge Mandujano (So., Corneilus, Ore.) found Arrington on a free kick. Arrington headed the ball past Willamette's goalkeeper to tie the match up 1-1. Arrington scored his first goal of the season on Sept. 4 in 3-1 loss against La Verne. Arrington is currently second on the team in shots (20) for the Boxers. Arrington has collected two assists both coming on Sept. 7 in 6-0 victory over Walla Walla.
SUMMERS CONTINUES TO BE STRONG: Even though the Boxers recorded two losses over the weekend, Michael Summers (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.) continues to play tough defense between the pipes. On Saturday, Summers collected seven saves in 3-2 loss to Willamette. On Sunday, Summers collect four saves in 4-1 loss to Linfield. His 11 saves over the weekend keeps Summers ranked first in the Northwest Conference in saves with 52. Summers also ranks in the top-10 in save percentage (.724). Summers has started all 11 games in the net for the Boxers, owning a 3-8-0 record. Summers also owns two of the Boxers three shutouts.
PACING THE OFFENSE: Nick Rudella (Jr., Sammamish, Wash.) scored two out of three goals over the weekend. On Saturday, Rudella scored in the 59th minute of the match to help the Boxers take the lead 2-1. Mandujano found Rudella on his second free kick of the match. Rudella headed the ball from eight yards out to the upper right corner of the goal. On Sunday, Rudella scored the only goal for the Boxers against Linfield. After a blocked shot and a save by the Wildcats, Garrick Knowles (So., Roseburg, Ore.) found Rudella off a corner kick from the left side. Rudella fired past Wildcat goalkeeper to tie the match at 1-1 in the 24th minute. Rudella is currently tied for fourth in the Northwest Conference in goals scored with four. Rudella also leads the Boxers with his four goals.
ASSISTING THE OFFENSE: Over the weekend, Jorge Mandujano helped the Boxers offense by assisting on two of the three goals scored. Both of Mandujano's assists came on Saturday in 3-2 loss against Willamette. In the 56th minute, Mandujano found Arrington on a free kick. Arrington headed the ball past Willamettes goal keeper to tie the match up 1-1. Mandujano's second assist would also come from a free kick, finding Rudella just three minutes later minute. Rudella headed the ball from about eight yards out to take the lead for the Boxers 2-1. Mandujano currently ranks in the top-five in assists in the Northwest Conference with three.

PACIFIC PICKED TO PLACE SIXTH: After posting a 5-12-1 record in 2011 the Boxers were picked sixth in a preseason poll of NWC coaches. The Boxers received 20 of a potential 64 points in the poll. Pacific Lutheran received five first place votes with Whitworth receiving two and Whitman receiving one. The Boxers were seven points in front of rival Linfield and seven behind Willamette.
