Devil Men Win Home Opener 2-1
(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College men's soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 2-1 win over Washington & Jefferson College on Wednesday.
The teams played even throughout the first half with solid play by both defenses. The Devils held a 9-3 advantage in shots as senior Nicolas Tierno (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek Regional) created some dangerous chances in the opening minutes.
Junior Jamie Martin (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) finished a beautiful lead pass, chipped over the defense by classmate Javier Mena (San Salvador, El Salvador/The American School) in the 64th minute.
The Presidents pulled even in the 71st minute behind an unassisted goal from Adam Suter.
Sophomore Nate Latshaw (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) dished a nice feed to first-year Braeden Kelly (Brookville, Md./Sandy Springs Friends) for the game-winner, just over a minute later, leading the Devils to their second win of the season.
The Devils held a 14-8 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in corners. Senior Cody Hickok (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) made three saves, anchoring a solid defense effort in the Dickinson nets. Jon Best made five saves in goal for W&J.
The Red Devils travel to Eastern Mennonite on Saturday for a 2:00 pm kick-off with the Royals. They are in action on Sunday as well, traveling to Washington & Lee for another 2:00 pm start.
