Red Devils Roll to 5-0, Turn Back Griffins 9-0
Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team rolled to a 9-0 win over visiting Gwynedd-Mercy College on Wednesday night. The Red Devils remain unbeaten, improving to 5-0 on the season.
The Red Devils struck first in the 11th minute, scoring twice in a span of just 34 seconds as junior Javier Mena (San Salvador, El Salvador/The American School) finished an assist from first-year Alfred Hylton-Dei (Geneva, Switzerland/Mercersburg Academy, Pa.) to put the Devils on the scoreboard.
Mena graciously returned the favor, feeding Hylton-Dei for a second Red Devil tally, and then received a beautiful pass pass from Hylton-Dei that he chipped into the net to stretch the lead to, 3-0, with 23 minutes remaining in the half.
The Devils appeared to score another well-developed goal, but it was waved off by an off-sides call. The Devils did strike once more before the break, however, as junior Dan Gaj (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) came on to find the back of the net, with assists from Braeden Kelly (Brookeville, Md./Sandy Springs Friends) and Nate Latshaw (Ephrata, Pa./Ephata) in the 33rd minute.
Hylton-Dei broke free again, five minutes into the second half, stretching the Red Devil lead to 5-0. Junior Derek Kachadurian (Weston, Mass./Weston) beat the defense and ripped a long shot into the net, off another assist from Hylton-Dei. Kachadurian collected a ball from Ricky Cole (Fairfax, Va./South County Secondary) to tally back-to-back goals on the night.
Kelly cleaned up a rebound, taking the ball away from a defender on the goal line, and was able to poke the ball into the corner of the net in the 67th minute. First-year Alex Bialko (Toms River, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) closed out the scoring with the first goal of his collegiate career in the 85th minute.
Three goaltenders saw time as senior Christian Hall (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) earned the start. Sophomore Reed Milbrath (Dickerson, Md./Sandy Springs Friends) and first-year Jacob Shreer (Towako, N.J./Morristown Beard) each made a save in the second half to preserve the shutout.
The Red Devils improve to 5-0 on the year. They open Centennial Conference play on Saturday, hosting Washington College at 5:00 pm in Biddle Stadium.
