Baruch Posts Third Straight Shutout, Defeat SUNY-Maritime (3-0)
The men's soccer team posted their third straight shutout victory by defeating the SUNY-Maritime, 3-0, in a non-conference home match played Monday afternoon at the Met Oval in Maspeth, New York.
With the result, the Bearcats improve to 6-4-3 overall, while the Privateers drop to 6-7-3. The Bearcats are now in the midst of a stretch of seven matches where they have compiled five wins and two draws.
Brian Wright scored the only goal of the first half at the 10:00 minute mark. Victor Tlepshev sent a pass across the top of the box that Wright received and quickly kicked past the goalkeeper for the 1-0 score.
During the second half, Vincent Cruz increased the lead to 2-0 in the 54th minute. The Maritime goalkeeper blocked a shot, but the rebound quickly bounced to Cruz and he knocked in the goal.
Armando Aguilar scored his second goal of the season and the team's third in the 75th minute. Aguilar kicked the ball with a high arc shot that found the upper right corner of the net past the surprised goalkeeper for the final 3-0 score.
Overall, the Bearcats outshot the Privateers, 26-10, which included a 13-2 margin in the first half. Guy Sharav posted the shutout with three saves.
Baruch will return to action on Wednesday, October 10, with a 7:00 pm CUNYAC road contest at Lehman College in the Bronx.
