NJCU'S ALEC METSCH TABBED NJAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

More news about: New Jersey City men's team

PITMAN, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | New Jersey City University rookie defensive center midfielder ALEC METSCH (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) has been a key component to the Gothic Knight resurgence in men's soccer in 2012. After scoring the biggest goal of his collegiate career in helping NJCU (9-4) to a key upset victory, Metsch has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for week six of the 2012 season.

Metsch, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound Business Administration major (with a minor in music), scored the game-tying goal midway through the 85th minute on October 3 as NJCU stunned No. 6/7 ranked and previously undefeated New York University, 2-1 in Jersey City.

NYU had taken a 1-0 lead in their non-conference showdown with just 10:24 remaining. The Violets entered the game having allowed just three goals in nine games and owners of the fourth lowest goals against average in the country. A comeback by NJCU seemed improbable.
