Maguire Scores First Career Goal in, 3-1, Loss to Western New England

Springfield, Mass.–Senior midfielder Sean Maguire (Portsmouth, RI) scored his first career goal as Rhode Island College fell, 3-1, to Western New England on Wednesday afternoon in men's soccer action. |

Maguire's goal came in the 81st minute as the Anchormen fell to 3-8-1 on the season. The Golden Bears even their record a 6-6-2. |

Senior Shawn DaCruz tallied the first goal of the game in the 13th minute when he rifled a shot past the RIC sophomore goalkeeper Christopher Duarte (Cumberland, RI) following a beautiful pass from Jake Bartnik. Bartnik then added a goal of his own in the 48th minute to give the Golden Bears a 2-0 advantage that they would not relinquish. |

Chad Barrett provided some insurance for Western New England in the 64th minute, when he stole a clearing pass from an Anchorman defender and beat Duarte with a top-corner shot. Rhode Island College finally got on the scoreboard when Maguire was awarded a penalty kick and converted on the attempt. |

Western New England outshot RIC 16-6 in the game, and the Golden Bears took eight corner kicks to the Anchormen's two. |

Duarte made three saves while Domenick Villano was credited with five saves for the hosts. |
