Late Tally Sends Medaille Men to 13th Victory of Season
PITTSBURGH, PA - In what was a hotly contested and physical game the Medaille men's soccer team earned its 13th win of the season by outlasting AMCC rival La Roche College (2-1) on the road this afternoon. For Medaille it is their 8th win in their last nine outings as they try keep pace in the conference standings.
The Mavs would get on the board quickly as Matt Goldwater would tally the first goal of his Medaille career just (1:16) into play when he headed home a long flip throw in from John L. Smith to give Medaille a (1-0) lead. That lead would hold up until the 23rd minute when La Roche evened the score when they netted a header of their own off a nice cross to make the score (1-1).
The teams would battle for another 60 plus minutes before the Mavs would net the game winner when George Tor finished off a ball played to him by Kevin Dhillon in the 85th minute to secure the victory. The Mavs did outshoot the Redhawks (26-18) overall and (8-5) on goal.
The win is the third straight for the Mavs and it improves their record to (13-2-0) overall and (6-1-0) in AMCC play. The Mavs will head to Penn State-Beaver on Wednesday (10/17) to take part in a 4:00pm non-conference match.
