Wesley Blanks Marymount (Va.)
ARLINGTON, Va. – Joel Jean-Simon scored two goals to lead the Wesley College soccer team to a 3-0 victory at Marymount (Va.) on Saturday afternoon. The win was Wesley's first in Capital Athletic Conference play this season while Marymount falls to 3-9-2 overall and 2-3 in league play.
In the 42nd minute, Joshua Chelleh took a free kick that Jean-Simon directed into the back of the net for the game-winner. Wesley (4-8-2, 1-4 CAC) took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but 22 minutes into the second half, Jean-Simon added an insurance goal off an assist from Keroll Newby. The goals were the first two of the season for Jean-Simon.
With just under two minutes in regulation, Chelleh stole a ball from 30 yards out and took it all the way for a score.
Mark Mattern returned in goal for the Wolverines and made three saves in the shutout victory. Wesley held a 17-7 advantage on shot attempts.
The Wolverines host Route 13 Rival Salisbury on Wednesday, October 17, at 7 pm.
