Oxy scores season high in rout of Caltech
By Michael Wells Sports Information DirectorLOS ANGELES —Daniel Watson (San Francisco) scored two goals and had two assists, Ryan Keong (Singapore) added two and the Occidental College men's soccer team put up a season-high eight goals in a 8-0 win over Caltech at Lower Field on Wednesday.
With the win, Oxy (7-6, 6-6 SCIAC) moves into a four-place tie with Whittier for the final SCIAC playoff spot with four games left in the regular season.
The Tigers put up three goals in the first half and five more in the second.
Jack Day (London, England), Ben Grime (Batesburg, S.C.), Ben Murray (Sandpoint, Idaho) and Munraj Singh (El Dorado Hills) were the other three Oxy goal scorers. Day, Grime, Watson, Jeffrey Najjar (Santa Fe, N.M.) and Christian Buchmann (Singapore) all recorded assists.
In the 25th minute, Kunmi Jeje had Caltech's best chance of the game. Brice Nzeukou played a free kick into the box from around midfield. Jeje beat Oxy goalkeeper Ian Agrimis (Portland, Ore.) to the ball, but missed his header off of the left post.
The Tigers return to action against Pomona-Pitzer at Jack Kemp Stadium on Saturday at 7 p.m.
