Baruch Claims CUNYAC Regular Season Title for Second Time in Three Years

The Baruch College Bearcats defeated the Beavers of CCNY, 3-1, in a CUNYAC home match played on Wednesday night at the Met Oval in Maspeth, New York.

With the result, the Bearcats win the CUNYAC regular season championship in first place with an undefeated conference record of 6-0-2. As the #1 seed, they will next host #8 seed York College in a CUNYAC home quarterfinal playoff match on Wednesday, October 24, with kick off scheduled for 4:00 pm at the soccer field on the campus of Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn.

The soccer match began in explosive fashion with CCNY scoring only two minutes into the match with a quick goal by Felipe Maidana. However, the Bearcats quickly countered with the tying goal only two and half minutes later with
Edward Humphreystapping in a goal off a cross from Christopher Peralta.

The Bearcats increased the lead in the 35th minute as Peralta shot an unassisted rocket from just outside the box into the upper right corner for the 2-1 lead.

The two teams battled throughout the second half, but the Bearcats put the game out of reach in the 78th minute with 5-time CUNYAC Rookie of the Week Oren Kozlowski
kicking a low cross delivered by Vincent Cruzinto the goal for the eventual 3-1 final score that helped solidify the regular season title for the second time in three years.

Helder Correiaearned the victory with two saves.

Overall, the Bearcats outshot CCNY, 24-10, which included a 12-2 margin in the first half.
