Medaille Men Blank Pitt-Greensburg for 10th Shutout of Season
GREENSBURG, PA - The Medaille men's soccer team posted its 10th shutout of the season when they cruised past conference foe Pitt-Greensburg (3-0) this evening to clinch a bye in the opening round of the AMCC tournament.
The Mavs secured at least a #1 or #2 finish in the regular season standings with the win, while claiming their fourth straight victory. Opening the scoring for Medaille was senior John Taggart who took advantage of a failed clear attempt by Greensburg in the 30th minute to seize a (1-0) lead.
The Mavs would strike again in the first half when Pablo Ordonez netted his sixth goal of the season on a free kick from the 20 yard line that found the back of the net to give Medaille a (2-0) advantage in the 36th minute. They would carry that lead into halftime.
The second half would start with no scoring before Medaille pulled away with a goal in the 69th minute off the foot of George Tor who won the battle for a cross and finished from the point off a pair of nice passes from Cory Carter and Jacob Conde which gave the Mavs an insurmountable (3-0) lead.
Medaille would cruise to victory as Nick Kurtz earned the shutout between the posts by stopping all three shots that the Bobcats put on frame. The win pushes Medaille to (14-2-0) overall and (7-1-0) in AMCC play. They will wrap up the home portion of their regular season schedule when they host Pitt-Bradford on Tuesday (10/23).
