More news about: Centre men's team

Led by three goals from Ryan Garvey, the Centre men's soccer team rolled to a 5-0 win over Rhodes in a Southern Athletic Association game Sunday in Memphis, Tenn.

Garvey, a senior forward from Louisville, Ky., has been on fire over the last two weeks, scoring eight goals over the Colonels' last four games and scoring multiple goals in the team's last three contests. Garvey's hat trick on Sunday gives him 16 goals on the season, tying a Centre school record.

It didn't take long for the Colonels to go up 2-0 in the game, as Robbie Tarver (Houston, Texas) scored an unassisted goal in the 14th minute with Garvey getting the first of his goals a minute later on an assist from Cameron Miller (Nicholasville, Ky.). Garvey got the second of his goals 10 minutes later to put the Colonels up 3-0, then added a third goal in the 63rd minute off an assist from Josh Settle (Bowling Green, Ky.). With Centre holding a commanding lead, freshman Connor Reed (Newbury Park, Calif.) scored the first goal of his career with less than two minutes to play to make the score 5-0.

Centre outshot Rhodes 13-6 for the game, though the Lynx held a 6-2 edge in corners. Zach Sosnovich (Woodbridge, N.J.) made five saves for Centre while Riley Sheen had four stops for Rhodes.

In picking up their fourth straight win, the Colonels improve to 12-3-1 on the season and 5-1 in the SAA. Rhodes drops to 4-9-1 overall and 1-5 in the conference.

Centre wraps up the regular season with a trip to Sewanee on Saturday.
