Thomas More Defeats Westminster, 4-0, to Advance to PAC Championship Match
(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The top-seeded Thomas More College men's soccer team defeated fourth-seeded Westminster College, 4-0, today (Wednesday, October 31, 2012) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Tournament semifinal match at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 12-3-4 overall and host either second-seeded Geneva College or third-seeded Grove City College in the championship match on Saturday (November 3). Match time will be announced later this evening on the PAC website. With the loss, the Titans fall to 11-6-2 overall.
Thomas More took an early, 1-0, lead when sophomore midfielder Pat Jacobson (Washington Borough, N.J./Warren Hills) scored off a corner kick by senior forward Brad Baumer (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) at the 18:13 mark. The Saints increased the lead to 2-0 at halftime when sophomore midfielder Jake Plummer (North Olmsted, Ohio/Hearts of Jesus Christ-Corpus Christi) scored from 35-yards out at 29:03.
The Saints extended the lead to 3-0 at the 48:40 mark when sophomore defender Alex Dean (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) scored off a rebound. Thomas More closed out the scoring at the 86:06 mark when senior midfielder Andrew Sullivan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) made a penalty kick for the final score of 4-0.
Sophomore goalkeeper Matt Kees (Covington, Ky./Scott) played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded four saves in the shutout.
Thomas More out-shot Westminster, 18-13, and won the battle of corner kicks, 9-2.
