Thomas More Wins Fourth Straight PAC Championship With 2-0 Win Over Geneva
(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The top-seeded Thomas More College won its fourth-straight Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship as it defeated second-seeded Geneva College, 2-0, today (Saturday, November 3, 2012) in the PAC Tournament championship match at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 13-3-4 and earn the PAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship tournament. The tournament field and brackets will be released on the NCAA's championship website (www.ncaa.com) at 1 p.m. on Monday (November 5). With the loss, the Golden Tornadoes fall to 9-6-4.
Thomas More took a 1-0 lead at the 48:44 when sophomore forward Kyle Troutman (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) found the back of the net off a cross from freshman midfielder Tim Knauer (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia).
Troutman added an insurance goal for the Saints at 57:50 for the final score of 2-0.
Sophomore goalkeeper Matt Kees (Covington, Ky./Scott) played all 90 minutes in goal and posted the shutout, while recording one save.
Thomas More out-shot Geneva, 12-8, while Geneva won the battle of the corners, 3-2.
