WUSTL Men’s Soccer Falls at No. 4 Carnegie Mellon 1-0
Pittsburgh, Pa., Sept. 30, 2012 – The Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team dropped its University Athletic Association (UAA) opener, 1-0, at No. 4-ranked Carnegie Mellon University on Sunday afternoon.
Washington U. held Carnegie Mellon out of the goal through much of the first half, before Max Tassano headed in a free kick in the 37th minute to give the Tartans a 1-0 lead. The Bears managed just one shot in the first half. Junior Michael Flowers accounted for the Bears' only shot on goal in the match, but his shot in the 67th minute was saved by the Tartans' goalkeeper.
Carnegie Mellon finished with eight shots to the Bears' three, including a 3-1 advantage in shots on goal. Junior Jonathan Jebson made two saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal for Washington U.
Washington University (5-3-1, 0-1 UAA) will try to end its three-game skid when it hosts Emory University in UAA action on Sunday, Oct. 7. The Bears and Eagles are set to square off at 1:30 p.m. at Francis Field.
Bear Notebook: The win for Carnegie Mellon evened the all-time series between the two teams to 12-12-2 … The Bears have been held scoreless in each of its last three matches, a span of more than 307 minutes.
