Baruch Wins CUNYAC Championship, Earn NCAA Berth, Overcome 2-0 Deficit to Win 4-2
The Baruch College Bearcats won the 2012 CUNYAC Tournament Championship by defeating the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College, 4-2, in an exciting comeback on Saturday night at Randall's Island.
The Bearcats entered the match without having practice all week due to issues related to Hurricane Sandy. They started the match slow and two quick goals by Brooklyn striker Peterson Petit Frere gave the Bulldogs a dramatic 2-0 lead after just three minutes of play.
Despite the awful start, the Bearcats never lost their composure and slowly began their comeback with Akil Georgescoring a goal on an assist from Povilas Bellain the 17th minute.
The match entered the halftime with Brooklyn leading, 2-1, but Kyle Keaguetied it on a header off an assist by Nicholas Kolajin the 54th minute.
The two teams battled looking for the go-ahead goal, but the Bearcats continued their momentum by scoring their third goal at 71:33. Christopher Peraltascored on a quick breakaway on an assist by Oren Kozlowskifor the stunning 3-2 lead.
They added a fourth goal at 88:15 to complete the comeback. Kozlowski recorded his second assist of the evening on a Victor Tlepshevcounter attack goal for the eventual 4-2 final score.
Overall, the Bearcats outshot the Bulldogs, 29-16, to demonstrate in the end that offensively they were more than capable of rallying for a 2-0 deficit to win 4-2.
Baruch also earns the coveted NCAA berth and will discover their first round opponent/schedule on Monday, November 5, via a live video announcement at 1:00 pm on NCAA.com.
