Washington U. Clinches Share of UAA Title With Draw Against Chicago

St. Louis, Mo., November 3, 2012 – Junior goalkeeper Jonathan Jebson preserved the shutout making seven saves as the Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team posted a 0-0 double overtime draw against the University of Chicago on Saturday afternoon at Francis Field in St. Louis.

Washington U. concludes regular season play with a 10-4-2 overall record, 4-2-1 in the UAA, while Chicago finishes 8-4-5, 2-3-2 in the league. The Bears finished in a four-way tie for first place in the UAA standing with Brandeis, Carnegie Mellon and Emory. The UAA title for Washington U. is the eighth in school history – 1987, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1999, 2011, 2012.

The 2012 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Selection Show will air live on www.ncaa.com at Noon (CT) on Monday, Nov. 5.

Prior to the contest, Washington U. honored its six seniors who played their final regular season home game on Saturday: Jack FischerKenji KobayashiZac QueryJames UnderwoodDavid Wilson and Brian Wright. The Class of 2013 helped the Bears to an overall record of 48-16-11 (.713), two NCAA Tournament appearances, and a share of the 2011 UAA Championship

Jebson picked up his eighth shutout of the season and 17th of his career. He made a game-saving play in the first half after a routine clear deflected off a Chicago defender and rolled into the box and was stopped on the goal line by Jebson.

Washington U. outshot Chicago 20-17 and had a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks. The 10 corner kicks is the second most this season by the Bears.

Bear Notebook: Washington U. leads the all-time series against Chicago, 24-8-2 … Five of the past six contests between the two teams have been decided in overtime.
