More news about: Medaille men's team

YORK, PA - The Medaille College men's soccer season came to an end this afternoon when Rutgers-Camden controlled play in a (2-0) win over the Mavs in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on the campus of York College (PA). The Mavs were making their 6th appearance in the tournament in the past eight seasons.

The Raptors got on the board early as they netted the games opening goal (6:41) into the game on an assisted tally to seize the lead. The score would remain (1-0) throughout the rest of the half as Rutgers would carry a (12-8) edge in shots heading into the locker room at the intermission.

The second half would see the Raptors once again strike early as they tallied on a free kick from the top right of the box which struck the crossbar and found its way into the goal off the ricochet, giving Rutgers-Camden a (2-0) lead in the 60th minute. The Raptors were able to maintain control of the game as they outshot the Mavs (22-11) overall and (9-5) on goal en route to the victory. Rutgers-Camden will face York College (PA) tomorrow in the tournament's second round.

Junior Pablo Ordonez was Medaille's most effective offensive player as he was able to get off five shots, three of which ended up on goal. Between the posts senior goalkeeper Nick Kurtz finished off his spectacular Medaille career with six saves.

It was the first time in 2012 that the Mavs were held scoreless in a game, in a season in which Medaille outscored their opponents (54-13), which included (13) shutouts. It was just the third time all season that Medaille allowed more than one goal. The Mavs finish with a (17-3-0) record while capturing their 6th AMCC Tournament title in program history.
