Beavers Shutout Bears 4-0, Record Season-High Eight Assists
BROOKLYN – For senior Tayfun Kucuk and juniors Kazuhide Kosugi and Kevon De Landro, Wednesday's season finale could not have been a better ending. Kucuk and Bertrand Oubida registered three assists apiece and Kosugi, De Landro, Mike Beick-Baffour and Alin Sandru each posted one goal as the City College of New York men's soccer team (8-9-3) shut out the Bears of St. Joseph's College (3-10), 4-0, in the Aviator Sports Complex.
CCNY picked up a season-best eight assists in their third four-plus goal performance of the 2012 campaign as Joe Read and Matthew Mbamelu added one assist apiece. Kucuk's three assists brought the New Jersey native to five assists on the year, second most on the Beavers. Oubida's three assists were his second, third and fourth helpers of the season and all came in the first half.
A three-goal first half saw Kosugi post his second goal of the season and Sandru and De Landro record their first goals of the 2012 campaign on six assists.
Freshman goalkeeper Chris Blanco picked up two saves to register his first win as a Beaver and finish his debut season with a 1-2 record. The nonconference contest was the Beavers' fifth shutout on the year.
