Redlands Men’s Soccer Standout Richie Marquez Collects NSCAA All-America Award

More news about: Redlands men's team

It was announced on Tuesday morning by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) that the University of Redlands men's soccer program garnered one All-America honor as junior defender Richie Marquez (Pomona, CA) landed on the Third Team.

After earning First-Team All-Conference honors for the third consecutive season, Marquez garners his inaugural All-America award.  Additionally, he is the only player from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) to be recognized as an NSCAA All-American in 2012.

Marquez spearheaded the Bulldog defense that recorded a stellar 0.82 goals-against-average in addition to notching eight shutouts on the year.  Always a threat in the air, Marquez led all Redlands' defenders with two goals in addition to dishing out one assist.  As the team's captain, he helped the Maroon and Gray to a 12-6-3 overall record and second-place finish in the SCIAC.

The NSCAA All-Region teams will be announced later this month.  For a complete listing of the 2012 NSCAA All-America teams, please visithttp://www.nscaa.com/awards/all-america/2012-ncaa-d3m-all-america.
