Season draws to a close as Bison drop homecoming game to Salem International on Senior Day

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senior forward Jean-Pierre Kanashiro (Springfield, Va.) scored his 14th career goal on Friday night at Hotchkiss Field but it was not enough as the Gallaudet University men's soccer team ended its 2012 season by falling to non-conference opponent Salem International University by a score of 6-1 on homecoming weekend.

Gallaudet concludes the season with a 3-13 record, the most wins since the 2005 season when the Bison sported a 3-18 mark.

Kanashiro connected on a beautiful strike in the game's 44th minute from just inside the goalie box after taking a loose ball in the midfield and advanced it into the Tiger's zone. The shot rendered the Salem goalkeeper Elliott Cook (three saves) helpless as Kanashiro fired a rocket into the top right corner of the net. In two seasons as a Bison, Kanashiro recorded two assists to go along with his 14 goals in just 29 games played.

The lone Bison goal was not enough as the Salem offense put six goals on the scoreboard. Ryan Martin was responsible for two assists on Salem International (8-5) goals in the 20th and 23rd minutes. Lennard Hansen accounted for half of the scoring output with goals in the 20th, 34th and 79th minutes. Mehmet Dogan got the game's first goal in the second minute and Dwayne Phidd added a 65th minute goal.

GU sophomore goalie Eric Setzer (Middletown, Md.) made 10 saves as he faced 31 shots (16 on goal).
