Gallaudet men's soccer wins first NEAC game of the season
READING, Pa. – The Gallaudet University men's soccer team ended its 11-game skid with a 1-0 win over North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponent Penn St.-Berks on Saturday afternoon. The win is the first in conference play for the Bison this season.
The Bison (3-11, 1-8 NEAC) were led to victory by sophomore goalkeeper Eric Setzer (Middletown, Md.) who collected 14 saves in the contest, and sophomore forward Karlis Intsons (Riga, Latvia) who broke away from the pack and hit the far corner of the net in the 3rd minute. Intsons' goal, his fifth on the season proved valuable, as it was the only one in the contest.
The rest of the first half featured back-and-forth action with GU recording two corner kicks and an additional four shots against Berks' eight shots and lone corner kick.
Setzer came up especially big in the second half, as Gallaudet nursed its 1-0 lead, notching eight saves on 13 shots and helped to turn away five corner kicks. GU was outshot 21-7 in the game. Penn St.-Berks (3-12-1, 0-8-1 NEAC) goalie Trey Madara made four saves in the loss.
