More news about: Gallaudet men's team

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Gallaudet University men's soccer attempted to rebound from its first loss of the season Thursday night against Southern Virginia University but time expired as the Knights erased an early Bison lead to win 2-1. A crowd of 230 was on hand at Hotchkiss Field to watch and support the Bison as they tried to get back in the win column.

The second half was all Southern Virginia as they dominated time of possession and dictated most of the pace in the period. The Knights (4-2) did not waste time scoring the eventual game-winning goal as freshman Cullen Seifert sprinted toward the Gallaudet goal and buried a beautiful crossing pass from freshman midfielder Cameron Walch past sophomore goalie Eric Setzer (Middletown, Md.) and into the back of the net to give SVU the one-goal lead, 2-1.

The pace turned frantic late in the second half as the Bison (2-2) tried to draw even with the Knights but they were unable to connect on a number of scoring opportunities before time ran out.

Gallaudet midfielder Gabriel Carino (Bronx, N.Y.) got the scoring started early as he cleaned up a loose ball a few feet in front of the net in the 13th minute. The score gave the sophomore his first collegiate goal of his career. The early advantage would not hold as Southern Virginia's Ryan Foster scored on a similar goal with 11 minutes left in the first half. Setzer (10 saves) made a nice save initially but could not control the rebound, that allowed Foster to score the equalizer, his third of the season. The two squads went into the half tied, 1-1, despite a sizeable 12-3 shot advantage for Southern Virginia.
